Temple of Red-Crowned Crane
The Temple of Red-Crowned Crane in Yangzhou, together with the Huaisheng Temple in Guangzhou, Qingjing Temple in Quanzhou, the Phoenix Temple in Hangzhou, are the four biggest Islamic temples along China's southeast coastal areas.
It was built by Puhading, the 16th-generation great grandson of Muhammed, in order to introduce the religion in Yangzhou during the rule of Deyou of the Southern Song Dynasty (1275).
The temple looks like a crane from the outside, not only in accordance with the requirement of Islamic construction, but also in the traditional style of Chinese buildings featuring the big roof in this regard, a refined combination of the Chinese style with that of Arabian countries Today, it is a symbol of the friendly contacts between Yangzhou and Arabia.
